CHAIR NOTES

Dear valued members,

Greetings! As we embrace the summer weather and a time for many of us to take a break away from our usual schedules, I'm thrilled to share some highlights and updates from our vibrant community.

Our most recent event, "Catalyzing Careers: Showcasing STEM Portfolios for Success," was a resounding success! Held on May 23rd, it brought together bright minds from across disciplines to explore methods that help our portfolios, full of hard work, stand out against the crowd. I would especially like to praise the insightful discussions, inspiring keynote addresses, and invaluable networking opportunities that our Local Section was able to deliver to over forty attendees! Thank you, once again, for all who helped make this event possible.

I would also like to highlight the astounding seminar about microplastics, delivered by Dr. Scott Coffin, that was given earlier in the month of May. With over sixty registrants, it’s clear that our community greatly enjoys the connection of chemistry with our environment, and what is being used for scientific innovation to address environmental challenges.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue fostering a supportive environment for growth and collaboration within our community. Coming up on Friday, July 12th, I invite you to check out the 25th annual MedChem Symposium, held at the UC San Diego Institute of the Americas Auditorium. Through collaboration with the SoCal Association of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Advancements (SABPA), UCSD School of Physical Sciences, and the sponsorship of many local industrial leaders, the San Diego MedChem Symposium is a wonderful chance for all to stay connected with the medical connection to chemistry and network with leaders in the field. Don’t miss the chance to participate in this free event to the public!

Lastly, some reflection. Coming into the role as your chair has been a rewarding six months of personal growth, and I can’t wait to finish the other half of this year strong. I’m confident that the content we will continue to work on will have a lasting impact on our community, especially with those who come from similar backgrounds to me.

Wishing you all a productive and fulfilling month ahead.

Warm regards,

Christina Vialva
