Dear valued members,
I’d like to begin this newsletter with a genuine thank you to those who attended our August seminar! I personally feel like Dr. Corson’s talk was beautifully explained, and is a refreshing take on using scientific knowledge to take what you have and make what you want out of it. As scientists, we so often practice this motto in the workplace, in school, and across many aspects of our personal lives. Wherever you, the reader, are, as you enjoy this newsletter, I hope you remember that our community is a resilient one that unifies to accomplish great things.
On Saturday, September 7th, our SD-ACS will be seeing to the fruition of our latest awarded Innovative Project Grant that is a collaboration with the Balboa Art Conservation Center. Learning about the intersection of the arts and chemistry is an eye opening experience, and was a compelling reason for me to approach science as a career.
If you’re unable to make it that weekend, then I’d also like to add that our annual picnic is just the weekend after our event at Balboa, on Saturday, September 14th, at San Dieguito County Park! This free event is going to include catering from Taquizas Jose, entertainment from Fun 4 Kids, and the return of our annual dessert competition. Bring friends, family, and your excitement to come out and party with us this year as we enjoy the warm weather and company. Register here.
Lastly, I highly recommend exploring the open positions in our upcoming election. Taking on a leadership role is a great way to influence the direction of our society and contribute to the advancement of our ACS commitment to broaden the chemistry enterprise for the community at large. Being chair of your San Diego Local Section is a privilege and an honor; however, I’d like to express that if it wasn’t for those in leadership who saw me as an integral part of what makes our Section what it is, I wouldn’t be in the position I am right now.
Once more, thank you for your time and enthusiasm, and I look forward to seeing you around soon!
Warm regards,
Christina Vialva
